My son Chance Clyce was in the Hunt County Juvenile Detention Center from 2/25/2008 until 3/12/2008. Ellis County Juv. Det. Center sent him there, they have no Detention Center of their own, so they contracted with Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Center. My son was on probation for opening a ladys’ car door.

While he was at Hunt Co. Juvenile Detention Center he was denied medical treatment within a timely manner which caused him to be permanently crippled. My son complained to Detention Officers at Hunt Co. Juvenile Detention Center, of pain starting on 3/4/2008, he complained daily, 3/4/08, 3/5/08, 3/6/08, 3/7/08, 3/8/08, 3/9/08. Instead of taking him to an emergency room on 3/4/2008 or 3/5/2008, they did not take him to seek medical treatment until 3/10/2008, although they had permission from Ellis Co. Juvenile Det. Center.

There was a medical release, and the facility in another county had told them to take him to seek medical treatment if they felt they needed to. They did not take him in a timely manner, and he also complained on 3/11/2008, and 3/12/2008. I had met Ellis County Juv. Det. Center Officer in Arlington Texas on 3/3/2008.

I had asked them to come and get Chance, which they did for me, to refill a prescription he was running out of and he needed more medication. Not for the pain, he had in Hunt Co. Juv. Det. Center. Hunt co. Juvenile Det. Center had a medical release on file, and they had spoken with Ellis Co., and they had permission to take Chance to get medical treatment, and the emergency room if necessary.

They did not until 3/10/2008, even though on 3/7/2008, they took other kids to seek medical treatment, they told Chance he could not go on that date, although they had told Ellis Co., that they would be taking him to get medical treatment asap, or to the emergency room at an earlier date. I do not know who was watching him on 3/3/2008, or 3/4/2008, the initials on the daily log are FN, but, he started complaining on 3/4/2008 of pain, and they did not take him to the physicians assistant until 3/10/2008.

On 3/4/2008 there are notes on the daily log sheet, Why does Chance not have a mattress or bedding, and they also moved him from B-111 to C-126 on 3/3/2008 for some reason, per the daily log sheet, I have yet to find out the truth.

Ellis County picked him up on 3/12/2008, where he was immediately taken to the emergency room in Waxahachie Texas. The doctors there told me he had broken bones, his liver was shutting down, his kidneys were shutting down, he had stopped producing white blood cells, he had barbituates in his body also. My son told me that a det. officer at Hunt Co. Juv. Det. Center gave him 2 blue pills on or about 3/4/2008.
We contacted the Greenville Police and told them this, and also the 3rd hospital that he was taken to called them and told them that Chance had been medically neglected by Hunt County Juvenile Det. Center. The Greenville Police forwarded the 2 complaints to the Juvenile Commission in Austin Texas.

Chance was intebated, and in ICU for 3 weeks, and in the hospital for 3 months. My sons' body was perfectly normal when he went in to Hunt Co. Juv. Det. Center for 2 weeks. He came out almost dead, the doctors were telling me that he probably would not live because he had not received medical treatment in time, and he also had mutliple septic joints from MRSA, and that the MRSA started in his left hip injury that he had received at the Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Center.

Chance is not sure how he was injured, but, he does know that he was given 2 blue pills from a det. officer there, and it was reported to the Greenville Texas police. My son also got endocarditus from the MRSA, in his heart. This caused a very large hole in his heart valve. He had to have 3 heart surgeries, one of them opened heart to fix the hole. He had 9 septic joints from MRSA, and he had 48 surgeries in 36 hours to save his life.

God saved his life, but, he now may have to have the other septic joints replaced at an early age, and he definately has to have a hip replacement from the MRSA destroying his left hip joint. He has had many surgeries, including a right jaw surgery to fix the right broken jaw that he somehow got in the Hunt Co. Juv. Det. facility, he does not know how he got it, but, he did have barbituates in his body per the doctor. He was not on barbituates when he went in there. My son can no longer go to skate and the skatepark, his left leg, he can only raise 3-5 inches now, and the cartilage was all eaten by the MRSA.

The doctors all say that if they had just taken him to get medical treatment in time, he would be just fine. MRSA in the blood kills you in 10 days they said.
I did sue them in Federal Court, but, the Judge favored them because they have all of these immunities, and they did at least take him to seek medical treatment after he complained of pain starting on 3/4/2008, every day until they finally took him to seek medical treatment on 3/10/2008. I have the daily log records, and he definately complained to the detention officers every day. The physicians assistant did not catch the MRSA in his blood, he still complained of pain on 3/11/2008, 3/12/2008.

My daughter saw him on 3/11/2008, she asked them to take him back to the Doctor, and they said no. I saw him on 3/8/2008 I asked them to take him to a doctor, or the emergency room, they said NO. I called them on 3/7/2008 to see what the medical person said about him at his planned visit on 3/7/2008, and Hunt co. said, we did not take him today, we could not get him in, but, I was told on 3/6/2008 or earlier, by Ellis Co. Juv. Det. Facility, that they were definitely going to take him to get medical treatment on 3/7/2008 with the other kids that they took that date, Hunt Co. did not take my son though he was complaining daily of pain, and had been since 3/4/2008.

On the Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Center Daily Log Records it says Chance complained of pain on each one of these days 3/4, 3/5, 3/6, 3/7, 3/8, 3/9, 3/10, 3/11, 3/12.

Ellis Co. Juv. Det. Center came and got him on 3/12/2008, and he was taken to the emergency room then. I have it all documented on legal Hunt Co. Daily Log records that he complained of pain daily, starting 3/4/2008. Also, they moved his cell on 3/3/2008, and it is noted on the daily log records of Hunt, that he was in his cell with no mattress, or bedding, on 3/4/2008. The Judge dismissed the case because, they at least took Chance to get medical treatment.
Why is it that these Detention Facilities can just do whatever they want to to our children, and not be sued, nor take responsibility for injuring these children, because, they have immunities from being sued? My son was perfectly normal when he went in there and now he is partially crippled.

He cannot run or do sports anymore, his left leg does not work.
My son has to take very strong controlled substance pain medication just to be able to walk to his school classes, he wants to join the army, or the marines, he cannot. He now has a disability, they will not take him. He can no longer run, he has very long scars all over his body from all the surgeries that he has had, he has to watch the other kids run and play football, basketball, and he cries, because he wants to play too, but, his left leg no longer works because Hunt co. Juv. Det. center waited so long to take him to seek medical treatment. When they finally did take him to get medical treatment it was to a physicians assistant, after complaining from 3/4/2008, on 3/10/2008, she did not catch the MRSA. Also, Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Center in Greenville Texas did take some kids to seek medical treatment on 3/7/2008, the date I was told my son would be taken, but, they lined him up to go, then told him he could not go on this date, he would have to wait. He had been complaining daily since 3/4/2008, and they took him back to his cell to lay in pain for 3 more days until they finally took him for the first time on 3/10/2008 to a physicians assistant, who only x-rayed him for his bruises, and broken bones, and hurting left hip, she missed that he had life threatening MRSA in his blood.

Also, while he was there he said that they cut the water off, and his faucet did not work. He was also very very dehydrated when he came out of Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Facility in Greenville Texas, and he had lost 15 pounds at the emergency room in Waxahachie Texas on 3/12/2008.
There must be something we can do about this problem, and I would appreciate any help or suggestions with what else I can do to make Hunt Co. Juvenile Detention Center pay for crippling my son, and causing him to go through all of the pain that they have caused him to go through by having to have multiple surgeries. Please write me a letter if you can think of anything that will help my son and myself get compensation for what Hunt Co. Juvenile Detention Center has done to us.

Oh yes, and the guy Fred Farley I think he Hunt Co. Juv. Det. Center apparently hired some sex offender from another Juvenile Det. Center recently, Shane Bennett, I think his name was. The Crosby Tx, police came to Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Center and picked this now Hunt co. Juvenile det. Center officer that had worked there from Jan. or Feb., 2011 in May 2011 for 12 or so counts of Agg. Sexual assault to a child at the Crosby Tx Juv. Detention Center he worked at before he worked at Hunt co. Juvenile Det. Center. It is in the Herald, the Greenville Texas newpaper, around May 19, 2011. Hunt Co. Juvenile Det. Center is where Ellis Co. Juvenile Detention Center sent their kids, in 2008, I do not know if they still send the Ellis County Kids to Hunt co. Juvenile Det. Center still, I moved out of the County in 2008.

Thank you,

Donna Clyce
